FIP Cat Symptoms

Hey fellow cat lover! You've probably heard of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), right? It's that scary virus that can be so devastating to our precious fur babies. 😔

What is FIP?

FIP is caused by a type of coronavirus that's actually pretty common in cats. This virus mutate to FIP when the immune system can't beat them. It's usually our younger feline friends or those with weaker immune systems who are more susceptible.

If your kitty does get sick with FIP, it can be heartbreaking to see them lose their appetite, lose weight, or even have fluid build up in their tummy. Sometimes, FIP can even affect their eyesight or make it hard for them to walk.

Causes

  • FCoV  or Feline Coronavirus: This virus can disseminate to another cat, but it won't harm your cat life if their immune system work normally.

  •  Stress: Can make Immmune system weak. Majority of this disease cause by this. (Behaviors that cause stress in cats can vary from individual to individual.)

  • Genetics: Some cat inherrit a FIP it from their ancestor.

FIP Cat Symptoms

Basically FIP systoms can divided into 2 by symptoms, wet and dry forms.

Common symptoms (Both forms)

  • Loss appetite

  • Has Fever

  • Low power

  • Yellow of the skin and eyes 

*Not all of these symptoms need to be present*

WET FIP (Effusive)

The cat accumulate fluid in abodomen or chest. 

  • Hard to breath

  • Have a huge abdomen but soft

Dry FIP (Non-Effusive)

According to common symptoms without fliud are a symptoms of Dry FIP, Anyway this type can develop to Neurological or Ocular system.

Neurological sysmtoms

  • Back legs can't be use. (Walking by both front legs)​

  • Seizures (It's means virus entered to brain already very dangerous)

How to Diagnose FIP in Cat

As you know generally symptoms are similar to other diesases. Diagnosis is typically made through a combination of clinical signs, blood tests, and imaging. If you suspect your cat may have FIP, it is important to consult with a veterinarian as soon as possible for proper diagnosis and. Here is a methods that use to identify FIP in cat.

  • Blood tests (CBC) Require AG Ratio (Albumin/Globulin) A/G ratio < 0.6 : Tend to be FIP

How to Treat FIP Cat

How to Prevent FIP from Cat
