FAQ

Medical Usage of Supportive Treatment

Q: Can we use steroids or Prednisolone during the treatment?
A: Treatment usage depends on the inflammation level. If the inflammation is very high you can use it but you need to finish within the first 14 days of GS-441524 injection..

Q: Why is Fluoroquinolone restricted?
A: Fluoroquinolones, such as Baytril, Zeniquin, Veraflox/Pradofloxacin, and Orbax, contain fluorine. This element can penetrate the nerve system and lead to symptoms associated with neurological FIP.

Q: Why should we avoid providing immune system support supplements like L-lysine, Beta-Glucan, and Interferon?
A: FIP increases CMI and HMI, making the immune system sensitive.
We should avoid it because L-lysine and Beta Glucan can promote cell replication, which affects FIPV replication.

Q: If the cat has feline disease such as FeLV, FIV, or FVP. Can we use GS-441524 for FIP treatment?
A: Yes, it is still possible to use GS-441524 for FIP treatment. However, the success rate following this table may decrease.

Q: Can we use vermifuge, antipyretic, decongestant and etc.?
A: Yes, you can, except for Fluoroquinolone.

Q: Can we give chemotherapy to the cat during GS-441524 treatment?
A: It's possible to proceed but we need to pause GS-441524 for 36-48 hours to assess the effect. It is important to note that Fluoroquinolone medicines cannot be used for chemotherapy.

Q: Why can't we use flea drops while undergoing GS-441524 treatment?
A: There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that there is a conflict between flea drops and GS-441524 action. However, since the flea drop action is fat-soluble like GS-445124, it can enter the nerves and cause neurological symptoms, leading to the development of FIP.

Q: Can we use Silver Nano Spray if the cat has skin fungus?
A: You may use it, but be aware that an allergic reaction is possible.

Parenting

Q: Can we give the GS-441524 to the FIP infected pregnant Cats?
A: Yes you can do it. However, you should provide complete nutrition for cats and kittens after giving birth, based on their age.

Q: Will GS-441524 affect the kitten if we use it to treat FIP infected mother cats?
(Both during pregnant and after birth)
A: There is not enough research and data to draw conclusions at the moment.

Q: Can we perform GS-441524 treatment for FIP infected kitten?
A: Yes we can, because the dose is calculated based on weight, not age. But we need to understand that the kitten's treatment success rate is very low. This is because kittens with 1-4 weeks of age have a very unstable immune system.

Relapse and Recurrent

Q: What can we do if the cat relapses or has a recurrence of FIP?
A: We need to do a historical check for the previous FIP treatment. What was the FIP form? How much A/G when the cat stopped the injection? When did you stop injecting? And we need to categorize the relapse and recurrence following these

  1. Relapse because you did not finish FIP treatment course
    - Check the FIP form and use the dosage following the symptoms then restart treatment for 84 days.

  2. Relapse during the observation period
    - Check the relapse FIP symptom and +2mg/kg for the dosage based on the FIP symptom then restart treatment for 84 days with a PCR test (blood sample) for the final health check.

  3. Recurrence after completion of observation period within 1-3 months
    - Check the relapse FIP symptom and +2mg/kg for the dosage based on the FIP symptom then restart treatment for 84 days followed by a PCR test (blood sample) for the final health check.

  4. Recurrence after completion of observation period over 4 months
Restart the treatment again for 84 days following the cat's symptoms.

Unclassical FIP

Q: How should we treat the unclassical FIP cat?
A: To treat the Unclassical FIP, we will adjust the dosage based on symptoms.

  1. Wet FIP then develops into Dry FIP
Use 8 mg/kg following Dry FIP

  2. Wet FIP or Dry FIP develops into Ocular/Neurological
    Use 10 mg/kg following Ocular/Neurological

  3. Dry FIP then develops into Wet FIP (not often found during treatment).
Use 8 mg/kg based on Dry FIP

Q: If the FIP cat has decelerated WBC and does not find other diseases such as FeLV, FIV, and FPV what should we do?
A:
If your cat's WBC is slowly declining from FIP virus (which is very rare), then you should speak with the veterinarian about boosting the WBC with G-CSF along with GS-441524, and have blood tests every 3 days until your cat's WBC returns to normal.

Other

Q: Do we need to store Emune at 3-8°C all the time?
A: No need to worry if you forget to store it in the fridge. It can be stored at temperatures below 45℃ for a few days.

Q: Can we change the injection time?
A: Yes, you can. But please keep the injection time at least (+ - 2 hours) from the existing injection time.

Q: If I do not have enough Emune for injection what can I do?
A: There are 2 solutions to this situation
1. There is little medicine left. Re-purchase as soon as you can and divide the medicine for daily injection until you receive the new vials.
2. If you finish all medicine. Re-purchase as soon as possible, then continue the injection and no need to restart the injection date to day 1.

Q: Can we change concentration during treatment?
A: Yes, you can. But you need to calculate the dose correctly based on the cat’s weight.

Q: Can we switch GS-441524 brand during the treatment?
A: Yes, you can. Every GS-441524 has the same action against FIPV. But you need to choose a higher concentration and calculate the correct daily dose. Also, be sure to look at the warranty of each brand.

Q: Can I finish the injection before 84 days?
A: We highly recommend completing the full 84-day treatment course as it greatly reduces the chance of relapsing and recurrence. However, we understand that cat owners may want to finish the treatment as soon as possible. In order to complete the treatment course, we must ensure that the CBC and A:G Ratio are both at least 0.7 in two consecutive health checks, and also conduct a PCR blood sample test.

Q: Can I extend the treatment course over 84 days?
A: Yes, you can. Depending on the treatment progress and result.
